Social Media can be very confusing and daunting for small to medium businesses. And more often than not a scary task to embark on. The internet is saturated with a myriad of social sites and apps making it difficult to figure out where to start and what channel is going to be best suited for your business needs.
There is so much more to social media than simply setting up accounts and constantly promoting your business and products in the hope your customers will find you and in turn purchase your product / shop at your store / dine at your establishment.
This is also the number one mistake many businesses make, constant promotion. However with a bit of guidance, social media will become the easiest most fun part about your business.
So what is my take on Social Media??
Put quite simply, Social Media is all about information and inspiration not sales. You're creating a community of the past, present and future. You're reminding past customers about the good time they had or great product they purchased. You're engaging current customers by replying to their online enquiries and questions and through these two, you are advertising to future customers.
And what's my experience you ask??
Well, firstly I'm not one of those "online gurus" who simply studied it and decided to broadcast their bullshit through sponsored posts and paid advertising as well as using foreign, big words to explain and exaggerate it.
My experiences are real, through trial and error. I have been running a business through Facebook since 2009. I was recruiting Working Holiday Makers for jobs across Western Australia. I set up an account in my own name as I realised I was my best asset. I made the decision to post my jobs through Facebook as I noticed a drastic change in the way backpackers were travelling. They were spending more and more time in internet cafes. I calculated my posts to the exact time I knew they would be in the cafes checking their emails and Facebook (waaay ahead of my time). Quickly word-of-mouth spread and before too long I had hundreds of backpackers adding me as a friend so they could keep up with my job posts. Suddenly I had my own little community to take care of.
Although I no longer own the business I still to this day have people contacting me about working in Australia.
I have also been freelancing in Social Media the past couple of years. Both consulting and managing various accounts in tourism, music, fashion arts and food. My biggest coup was being offered a temp Digital Project Manager position for Tourism Western Australia. Although it was only an 8 week contract I gained valuable experience managing large Facebook page and Twitter communities. I also boosted their follower base and engagement rate immensely by curating epic content. Through this and knowing my (VERY) particular eye for quality images I gained another contract with them sourcing the images for their redeveloped website.
Over the years I found myself slowly going from managing accounts to teaching people. After all, you know your business and customer base more than anyone. So it makes perfect sense to be running your own social media accounts.
Because of this I am now offering one-on-one sessions with businesses to teach you the ins and outs of social media.

What everyone is saying about me.....
"Previous to Danielle I had 4 people come in and try to teach me social media. I switched off after the first hour and didn't learn a thing, Danielle kept me interested and entertained for 5 hours and I learnt more from Danielle in the time we spent together than all four put together. She's fantastic." - Peter - Sgt Peppers Vintage Vinyl and Collective.
"I established the Social Media branch of my consultancy early last year and from the start Danielle has been nothing but helpful and interested in my venture, providing guidance and support every step of the way. Danielle is without doubt one of the most knowledgeable Social Media specialists in Australia. Approachable, innovative, visionary and philanthropic; she conducts herself with integrity and an easy professionalism at all times, and is a delight to work with!" - Jessie Singh - Arterial
"I've been dabbling with several social media accounts for my business over the last couple of years and I recently spent a half day with Danielle reviewing and refining these activities. One of the main benefits for me was that the session was one-on-one; it was a safe forum for the numerous niggling questions I had about the intricacies of each medium - questions that I've never have the time to research to find answers for myself. Danielle has a plethora of knowledge across a broad range of social media, innovative ideas, an unparalleled enthusiasm for educating others to "do" social media better and a fun, approachable teaching style. I would thoroughly recommend making the time to pick her brain." - Casey Bryden - Sunbella Australia
"Danielle is a highly professional, motivated and innovative young lady that lives and breathes social media. Kojai is a location based social media app, and although we had done all the necessary planning and business cases on how to grow our app and brand, we didn't realise just how much more effort was required from a social media engagement aspect. Danielle came in and simplified these requirements and best of all put together a extensive 'battle' plan and schedule in-order to achieve our user growth goals. All this was vital in us securing seed funding, allowing us to further propel Kojai to the masses. There is never a dull moment with Danielle and she quickly grows into a business sounding board for great ideas. - Amir Farhand, Kojai App
"We had been using social media for my business not realising how to convert it into sales. We also weren't delivering my message across appropriately for each social media channel. Danielle has helped us immensely and I would recommend her to any business who wants growth and increased revenue!" - Maddy Andrijich - Motive8 Lifestyle Management
